Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations – Kasuva Centre

To honour the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Sevalaya celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi at Kasuva Centre on 2nd October 2020. M S Syed Ravoof, Probation Officer, Chennai & Thiruvallur, was the Chief Guest for the event.  On this occasion, a State Level Chess tournament in memory of Shri Vankamamidi Venugopal Rao was sponsored by his daughters Mrs Suseela, Mrs Padmavathy, Mrs Sai Sumana and son Mr Satya Prabhakar, an entrepreneur, on the occasion. They also sponsored a special lunch in memory of their mother Smt. Vankamamidi Anasuya. The family joined in the online celebrations.
M S Syed Ravoof, the Chief Guest, created awareness about 1098, toll-free Child Helpline number, which can be contacted to help children in distress. He also highlighted the importance of parents’ responsibility for their children’s growth and well-being. He requested parents to be more open-minded and interact with their children in a friendly manner. The Chief Guest ended his speech appreciating Sevalaya for changing the lives of children through care and education.
Sevalaya children presented a colourful cultural programme. Earlier state-level oratorical, essay, quiz and drawing competitions were conducted. 1145 students from 48 districts participated. Prizes were distributed to the winners who were present at the venue, by the Chief Guest. Prizes for other winners will be couriered to their homes.

Sevalaya has adopted 5S, a Japanese method of workplace organisation. The work culture has vastly improved and all employees present kaizens regularly. D Umar, a teacher at Sevalaya received an Award for suggesting the Best Kaizen Award. Venkat Ganesh Nagaraja, Head, Purchase and Stores won a cash award for designing the prize-winning 5S poster.  He donated the cash prize to Sevalaya and gave a brief talk on the importance of 5S.
The event ended with a vote of thanks from Amarchand Jain, Advisor of Sevalaya.
