A State-Level Chess Tournament in memory of Shri Vankamamidi Venugopal Rao sponsored by his daughters Mrs Suseela, Mrs Padmavathy, Mrs Sai Sumana and son Mr Satya Prabhakar, was conducted by Sevalaya at Kasuva Centre on October 2nd 2020. The Tournament was held in harmony on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti with chess being a non-violent sport.
227 children participated from 6 districts. The Tournament had 2 categories, U-10 & U-14. Top 10 winners from each category were awarded cash prizes and participants received certificates from the esteemed sponsors.
The family sponsored a special lunch in memory of their mother Vankamamidi Anasuya for Gandhi Jayanti.
The beauty of chess is that it can be whatever you want it to be. It transcends language, age, race, religion, politics, gender and socioeconomic background. Whatever circumstances, anyone can enjoy a clean fight over the chess board without physical violence.
