World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed annually on 15th June 2023 to raise awareness about the mistreatment and neglect of older adults and promote the importance of their well-being and dignity. Students from Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Free Community College located across Tamil Nadu, studying different trades, took an oath on, “How to Fight against Elders Abuse” which was organised by Social Welfare and Women’s Empowerment Department, Tamil Nadu. They took an oath to treat elders with kindness, refrain from using harsh language that could hurt them, and give priority to elders in public places such as hospitals, banks, and buses. Their pledge aims to ensure the well-being and respect of elders in society.
