The 1000th Birth Anniversary of Sri Ramanuja Acharya was celebrated at Sevalaya on 28th April 2017. The idol of Sri Ramanuja was brought to Sevalaya, in accordance with custom and tradition, from Sri Ramanuja Kaingarya Trust and prayers were offered by the temple priest. ‘Isaikkavi’ Ramanan, a renowned speaker on literature and spirituality, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
He explained to the students in a simple language, the greatness of Sri Ramanuja Acharya, and a forerunner for Sevalaya’s inspirers, Mahakavi Bharathiyar, Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda. He also mentioned that Sri Ramanuja firmly believed in advocating social service as an essential part of worship, way back in the 10th and 11th century, and that his teachings are very relevant in the modern times we live in.
