Sevalaya Alumni’s Enterprising Initiative

Sevalaya, in its constant quest of bringing rural transformation in all the verticals, opened a community college to benefit rural poor, youth and school dropouts. The students of Sevalaya’s Community college are given specialized- 6months short term courses on Beautician, Electrician, A/C and Refrigeration, Nursing Assistant and Garment making. Sevalaya’s community college has, to its credit, achieved 100 percent placement of students in reputed establishments. Sevalaya also extends help to those wish to be entrepreneurs on their own.

Ms. Radha an alumni, studied in Sevalaya’s school from 6th to 12th, availed all the help given to her totally free of cost. Also she joined beautician course in Sevalaya’s Community college, successfully completed and became well conversant in the profession. She had expressed her desire to start a beauty parlor in her home village, Kavanur, Thiruvallur District, Tamilnadu, India. Emotionally moved by the continuous help given by Sevalaya, she approached and requested Mr. V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya, to inaugurate the parlor and bless her. She made all arrangements with the support of her husband who is engaged in agricultural activity. He is cultivating jasmine flowers and sells them in the market every day.

On 10th February 2016, at 7 am, Mr. Muralidhran opened the parlor. Mr. Ranga Jahagirdar, Hindu Society of Ottawa-Carleton, INC, Canada participated in the opening function, and graced the occasion. Ms. Radha Srinivasan, PR Corporate Head, Sevalaya also participated.

This is an instance to mention the Sevalaya’s continuous support to the rural poor, wishes to come up in their lives on their own enterprising initiative. However it is part of
Sevalaya’s mission of rural transformation.
