Sevalaya NGO which runs the Mahakavi Bharathiyar Community College in
Uthiramerur for underprivileged women organised a Smokeless Bhogi Rally
on 11th January 2025. Flagged off by Chief Guests from Uthiramerur Police
Department, around 50 students and staff members participated and
spread awareness among the public.I Babu, Inspector of Police and R Mari Selvam,
Sub-Inspector of Police, G2-Police Station, Uthiramerur were the Chief Guests on
the occasion. P Murugadhas and K Yellappan, Constables also participated.
Inaugurating the rally and speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guests said that it
is important that the students be aware of the reason behind the rally- the urgent
need for us to address environmental and plastic pollution. He praised Sevalaya’s
activities empowering women at the Community College and
also promised to support Sevalaya’s Zamin Endathur Old Age Home.
50 students and staff from Sevalaya’s Community College participated in the rally,
raising slogans against smoke pollution and burning of plastic and rubber materials.
The participants carried banners raising awareness about the harmful effects of smoke
and plastic pollution on our health and environment. The
rally was taken out from Ambedkar Statue, Kanchipuram Main Road to Sevalaya’s
Mahakavi Bharathiyar Community College near Government Hospital for a distance of 2 kms.
The rally raised awareness among thousands of members of the public who were on their
pongal shopping spree. Refreshments were distributed to the participants after the rally.
Earlier A N Sabira, Centre Head, Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Community College,
Uthiramerur welcomed the gathering. A Ramesh, Donor Relations Officer, Sevalaya delivered
the Vote of Thanks. Mementos were presented to the Chief Guests.

located near Thiruninravur. Spread across 40+ centres in South India, Sevalaya also provides
skill development courses for youth, runs After-School Study Centres, Children and Old Age Homes,
Hospitals, healthcare and rural development projects, gaushalas and organic farms, with all
its services provided free of cost, reaching nearly 10,00,000 beneficiaries in 37 years.
