Participate and Inaugurate Science Exhibition and Environmental
Projects
Sevalaya’s Kasuva centre near Thiruninravur celebrates National
Science Day every year on 28 February with the aim of nurturing
students’ curiosity about science. This year, Henning Figge, President,
Haworth International, inaugurated the Science Day Celebrations and
Montessori Exhibition as the Chief Guest. Vasudeva Rao Anand,
Finance Director, Joseph Antony, HR Manager, Mahendran Balan,
Assistant Finance Controller and Varshini Ramesh, A&D Associate,
Haworth International along with Meera, a dedicated teacher, joined
the event.
In his speech, Figge reminisced about his school days and the
encouragement he received from his parents. He expressed his
willingness to support Sevalaya’s children and spoke about his
family’s values. He encouraged students to be true to themselves in
order to achieve their dreams. All the guests spoke in praise of
Sevalaya’s service to society and wished success for the school and
its students.
The Chief Guest then inaugurated the Montessori Exhibition. The
exhibition featured chart works on eye-hand coordination, Montessori
books, and thematic displays on five types of land, animals, birds,
vegetables, and community helpers. Montessori mat activities were
also showcased. Revathi K, Primary Headmistress, guided the guests
through the exhibition, showcasing students’ artworks. Students also
demonstrated three project models showcasing smart use of
technology.

Prizes were distributed to children who participated in and won in
various Science Day competitions by the Chief Guest. The school’s
Children’s Parliament Committee was introduced and honoured by the
guests. The guests interacted with the committee members, and a
pledge was taken to uphold honest service to the school. The guests
visited the Montessori classroom sponsored by Haworth and
interacted with the children. As a special message to the children, Mr
Figge wrote on the smartboard, “I am blessed to see so many children
with a bright future ahead.”
Earlier, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya
welcomed the guests and introduced Sevalaya’s infrastructure and the
services. He also explained the significance of National Science Day,
which commemorates Sir C V Raman’s discovery of the Raman Effect.
He expressed gratitude to Ms Meera for her annual contribution of
science-related gifts to children, not just at Sevalaya but also in
surrounding schools. Additionally, he acknowledged the guests for
their generous contributions to Sevalaya’s classrooms, healthcare and
village development initiatives over the past five years.
During his speech, the Founder spoke about his college friend, Rajesh,
a scientist, and mentioned the “Zero to Maker” project. Sevalaya
teachers who attended his sessions have been passing on their
knowledge to students. In recognition of these efforts, Dinesh B,
Physics PG Assistant received a certificate on behalf of the teachers
from the Chief Guest.
Prasanna Parthasarathy, Vice President, Donor Relations, Sevalaya
delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guests for
their support. Handicraft items made in Sevalaya and a memento
were presented to all the guests.

Following the celebrations at Kasuva Campus, the chief guest and
other dignitaries proceeded to Kiloy village, Kanchipuram District for
the inauguration of community welfare initiatives sponsored by
Haworth. These initiatives included the installation of a Mini High-
Mast Light, which enhances safety by preventing crimes and reducing
accidents during night time. Given the presence of numerous factories
in the area and the scarcity of groundwater, an RO plant with a
capacity of producing 1,000 litres per hour has been established. The
purified water is made accessible to the community at an affordable
rate of 25 litres for ₹5. Sevalaya was the implementation partner of
this project.
Additionally, a special medical camp was organised, featuring expert
doctors from Saveetha Hospital across various specialties, including
Gynecology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, General Medicine, and
Ophthalmology. The camp benefited over 71 villagers by providing
essential healthcare services. The visit concluded with an interactive
session between the dignitaries, chief guest, doctors, and community
members at Sevalaya’s, Kiloy Medical Centre.
