
Komatsu India and Sevalaya Inaugurate Free After-School Study Centres for
Tribal Children in BR Hills, Chamarajnagar, Karnataka
As part of its CSR activities, Komatsu India Private Limited has sponsored
two After-School Study Centres for rural tribal children in BR Hills,
Chamarajanagar district, bangalore. Sevalaya is the implementation partner
of the project worth nearly ₹7 lakhs.The two centres in Bangle Podu and
Yarakanagadde villages were inaugurated on 25 Feb 2025 by dignitaries from
Komatsu India in the presence of village representatives. Hiroshi Myojo, Vice
President, Marketing Product Support and S K Nadiga, Senior Manager, HR &
GA Department, Komatsu India graced the occasion as Chief Guests. Aravinth,
Manager, HR & GA Department, Komatsu India, Kethamma, Past Zilla President
and Dr. Madegowda Atree, Tribal head also participated. Nearly 40 children
are already enrolled in the two centres. Designed in collaboration with IIT-
Madras’ Vidya Shakti initiative, these free centres for underprivileged
students are equipped with smart-boards, audio-visual equipment and books.
They offer daily lessons with special focus on Mathematics and Science,
regular mentoring and a conducive learning environment. Sevalaya runs 28 other
After-School Study Centres across Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.
Komatsu India has also sponsored 2 of these centres in Sitheri Hills, Dharmapuri,
implemented by sevalaya.
Speaking on the occasion, Hiroshi Myojo shared that Komatsu was very happy to
partner with Sevalaya in bringing after-school education to the children in these
tribal villages. He added that Komatsu, Chennai had been working with Sevalaya for
the past 6 years and had recommended Sevalaya to the Bengaluru CSR team who were
working on education projects for the tribal children in Karnataka.
Nadiga in his speech shared that he was present when Sevalaya and Komatsu India
inaugurated the after-school study centre at Maguvinahalli last year. He stressed
the importance of education and encouraged the children to develop their interest
in education so that they can become doctors and engineers in the future.
V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya in his speech shared
that through this project, we have been able to bring quality education on par
with IIT standards to tribal children in the remote BR Hills region. He said
that future IIT graduates would arise from these villages, thanks to IIT’s Vidya
Shakti programme focused on Science and Maths education. He also outlined Sevalaya’s
work in the fields of education, healthcare and welfare of destitute
children and elders.
