As part of its CSR activities, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd sponsored the construction of an RO plant at Oddankaranai in Gunduperumbedu village, Sriperumbudur Block, Kancheepuram district. Sevalaya was the implementation partner for the project.
At an event held on 23 May 2026, J S Sahayaraj, DGM – CSR & Administration, JK Tyre’s Industries Ltd and CSR Committee members from JK Tyres inaugurated the RO plant. Muthammal Shankar, Panchayat President – Gunduperumbedu and Sevalaya staff members also participated.
Built at a cost of ₹7.07 lakhs, the RO plant with a capacity of 500 LPH will benefit around 1,500 villagers from Gunduperumbedu and the nearby villages of Vellarai and Kaduvancheri. The operation and maintenance of the RO plant will be managed by the Gunduperumbedu Panchayat. A nominal charge of ₹5 for 20L will be collected by the Panchayat from the villagers to support the maintenance and long- term sustainability of the RO plant.
In his speech, Sahayaraj said, “Many diseases spread through contaminated water. We are happy to inaugurate this project that will benefit children and villagers,” and requested the villagers to ensure proper use and maintenance of the RO plant. “We have been successfully implementing various rural development projects with Sevalaya. They have been implementing these projects effectively. We will continue to collaborate on many more projects,” he added. Speaking on the occasion, Muthammal Shankar said, “The groundwater is of poor quality in our village. This RO plant will be very useful for our villagers. We will ensure proper maintenance of the plant.” She also requested support for the construction of a community toilet, especially for women in the village.
Earlier, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya, welcomed the guests and villagers. He said, “We thank JK Tyre for sponsoring this project. With the support and cooperation of the villagers and village administration, we will be able to implement many more such projects.” A memento was presented to the Chief Guest. Navin Kumar N, AVP – Donor Relations, Sevalaya, and Gnanadinakaran Neil, AVP – Projects, Sevalaya, were also present.
