Komatsu and Sevalaya Inaugurate RO Plant in Panruti village Sriperumbudur, Ensure Safe Drinking Water for 3,500 Villagers

As part of its CSR activities, Komatsu India Pvt Ltd sponsored the construction of an RO plant at Panruti village in Sriperumbudur Block, Kancheepuram district. Sevalaya was the implementation partner for the project.

At an event held on 2 Jun 2026, J Selvakumar, Sr AGM – HR & GA and J Harikrishnan, Sr AGM – Manufacturing from Komatsu India Pvt Ltd inaugurated the RO plant. Arjunan, President, Panruti Panchayat and Sevalaya staff members also participated.
Built at a cost of ₹8.17 lakhs, the RO plant with a capacity of 1,000 Lph will benefit around 3,500 villagers from Panruti and Kandigai villages.

The operation and maintenance of the RO plant will be managed by Panruti panchayat. A nominal charge of ₹5 for 20L will be collected by the Panchayat from the villagers to support the maintenance and long-term sustainability of the RO plant. Speaking on the occasion, Selvakumar emphasised the importance of water conservation. He noted that access to clean water is essential for future generations and highlighted the need to protect and preserve water and natural resources.

Harikrishnan said that many people from Panruti and surrounding villages are employed at Komatsu India and that a portion of the profits generated through the company's operations is reinvested in such community development projects. He appreciated Sevalaya for effectively implementing the project and urged villagers to ensure that the facility is used responsibly for drinking water purposes.

Earlier, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee of Sevalaya, welcomed the guests and villagers. In his address, he thanked Komatsu India and stressed the importance of providing communities with access to clean drinking water. He also underscored the importance of maintaining cleanliness to ensure the proper upkeep of the facility.

Arjunan stated that Komatsu India has fulfilled several development needs of the village over the years. He noted that the company had earlier supported the construction of a community hall at a cost of ₹1.25 Crores and also provided a generator, tables and chairs for community use. He also appreciated Sevalaya’s support and requested Komatsu India to consider supporting the establishment of a sewage treatment plant as a future community development initiative. Mementos were presented to the Chief Guests. Navin Kumar N, AVP – Donor Relations, Sevalaya and Gnanadinakaran Neil, AVP – Projects, Sevalaya were also present.
