First-Generation Underprivileged Learners Shine in Std X Exams

Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School has achieved 99.3% results in the X standard board exams conducted this year. The results were released on 20 May 2026.

Among 141 students, 140 students have successfully passed the exams. The toppers this year have secured 99%, 96.4% and 96.2% marks respectively. Sevalaya, a charitable organisation has been functioning for the past 38 years, educating nearly
2,100 underprivileged children every year, free of cost at their school in Kasuva, near Thiruninravur, Tiruvallur. Many students are first generation school goers hailing from a disadvantaged economic background.

The topper, Rashwanth T scored 493 out of 500 marks. Studying in Sevalaya since LKG, he has consistently excelled in academics as well as extra-curricular activities. His father works as a driver and his mother runs a petty shop. He has an elder brother who is suffering from health issues. In spite of difficulties in the family, Rashwanth has got top marks. He wished to study in IIT and become a Data Scientist.

Avinesh V and Hashini U have scored 482 out of 500 and come second. Avinesh’s father works as a driver and his mother is a homemaker. He is the first person to complete Std X in his family and wishes to become a Data Analyst in the future. Hashini’s father is a farmer and her mother is a homemaker. Her younger brother and sister are also studying in Sevalaya. Hashini wishes to pursue Bio-Maths in Std XII and become a Medical Biotechnologist in the future.

Gayathry V scored 481 out of 500 and came third. Her father is differently-abled and her mother works as a housekeeper in a private firm and runs the family. Gayathry wishes to become an IAS officer. Her younger sister is also a Sevalaya student.

Three students secured centum scores in Mathematics and Science. Among them, Pavithran is the first in his family to complete Std X. Suganya, who scored
100/100 in Science, is the second person in her family to complete Std X. Her elder sister, a Sevalaya alumna, is currently pursuing MBBS after clearing NEET.

From the Children’s Home, the toppers Manikandan, Keerthana and Pavithra have scored 371, 335 and 319 respectively. All the toppers credited their teachers and Sevalaya for their success and promised to become successful in life and give back to Sevalaya and society. Sevalaya teachers spared no efforts in going beyond their job to ensure that the students were thoroughly prepared academically, physically and mentally to give their best. They arranged several special classes and provided individual attention through counseling sessions to the students. Sevalaya also regularly conducts career guidance sessions and supports deserving students in pursuing higher education.
