100+ Students Participate in Smokeless Bhogi Rally organised by Sevalaya in
Errapatti, Dharmapuri Sevalaya NGO which runs the V T Shanthi Memorial Senior
Citizens Home in Errapatti, Dharmapuri organised a Smokeless Bhogi Rally and
celebrated Pongal and Vivekandar Jayanthi on 10th January 2025 in the presence
of dignitaries and college students.T S Latha, Inspector of Police, Adhiyamankottai
and P Krishnamoorthy, Correspondent, Sri Krishna Paramedical College, Dharmapuri
were the Chief Guests on the occasion. D Jayapriya, Founder, Jayam Yoga Trust,
Aadhimoolam, Aadhi Foundation and Shankar, Pasumai and Kalvi Trust also graced
the occasion. Inaugurating the rally and speaking on the occasion, the Chief
Guests stressed on the importance of celebrating a smokeless Bhogi in the
interest of the environment and encouraged students to become responsible
citizens of society in the future. The Chief Guests then lit the ceremonial
flame for the Pongal pot and as the pot boiled over, participants happily
cheered ‘Pongalo Pongal’ in a festive spirit. Prizes were awarded to students
who won the MYVivekananda competitions conducted on the occasion of
Vivekanandar Jayanthi by Sevalaya.The Chief Guests, nearly 110 students
and staff from Sri Krishna Paramedical College, Sevalaya staff and members
of the public participated in the Smokeless Bhogi rally, raising slogans
against smoke pollution and burning of plastic waste materials.
The participants carried banners showcasing the damage caused to the
environment and our health due to smoke and plastic pollution. The
rally was taken out from Sevalaya’s V T Shanthi Memorial Senior Citizens
Home, Errapatti to Oddapatti Bus Stop for a distance of 4 kms.
Students also participated in a signature campaign and signed a
declaration to celebrate a Smokeless Bhogi. On behalf of Pasumai and
Kalvi Trust, 100+ saplings were distributed to the students, public
and residents of Sevalaya’s Senior Citizens Home. Refreshments
were distributed to the participants after the rally.
M T Anandan, Head- Homes, Sevalaya welcomed the gathering and shared that
Sevalaya regularly organises Smokeless Bhogi rallies across its various
centres and this was the first time that the event was being celebrated
in Dharmapuri. He thanked the participants for making the event a grand
success. A memento was presented to the Chief Guests.Sevalaya is a
