Sevalaya celebrates Children’s Day with children at Paediatrics Ward of Government Stanley

Sevalaya NGO staff and students of Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School,
Kasuva, Thiruvallur celebrated Children’s Day with children at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Institute
of Social Paediatrics at Government Stanley Medical College on 14 November 2024.
Dr J Ganesh, Head of Paediatrics, Professors Dr P Senthilkumar and Dr R Senthilprabhu, and Dr
Thamarai, Assistant Professor, District Early Intervention Center (DEIC) graced the occasion as
Chief Guests.Around 50 children from DEIC attended the programme with their parents. All children were dressed in different costumes for the event and performed a ramp walk.
Welcoming the children, parents and guests on the occasion, V Muralidharan, Founder and
Managing Trustee, Sevalaya spoke about a Children’s Day 20 years ago when he visited a family
member at a hospital and felt children admitted there also needed to celebrate the day.
Sevalaya started celebrating the day in Paediatrics Departments in Government Hospitals
around Tamil Nadu. Dr J Ganesh, in his speech said celebrating Children’s Day would provide a relief from the stress for the parents and kids and requested Sevalaya to continue the event every year.
Dr Thamarai, praised the parents for their preparation and helping their children with
neurodevelopmental issues perform and make progress towards joining regular schooling. She
also thanked the therapists at DEIC for their dedication and efforts.
Health kits containing fruits and biscuits were gifted to the children by the Chief Guests along
with toys to improve hand-eye coordination. Sivaguru, a child with exceptional talent in
painting at the international level was felicitated on the occasion. 50 health kits were also
distributed to the children at the Paediatric wards by the Sevalaya children.

Dr K Kavitha, Head of Health Department, Sevalaya delivered the Vote of Thanks and thanked
the professors, doctors, children and parents for their cooperation and presented mementos to
the Chief Guests. Sevalaya is a registered charitable trust headquartered in Chennai, operating since 1988. More than 2,200 underprivileged children are provided education at their campus located near
Thiruninravur. Spread across 30 centres in South India, Sevalaya also provides skill development courses for youth, runs children and old age homes, hospitals, healthcare and rural
development projects, gaushalas and organic farms, with all its services provided free of cost,
reaching nearly 8,00,000 beneficiaries in 36 years. Children’s Day was also celebrated by Sevalaya at Government Hospitals in Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Dharmapuri, Thanjavur, Thenkasi and Mayiladuthurai.
