AGS Health, as part of its CSR activities, sponsored the installation of
RO water plants at three schools in Chennai—Government Girls Higher Secondary
School and Chennai Middle School in Poothapedu, Porur, and Government Girls
Higher Secondary School, Kundrathur, in the Kancheepuram district. Sevalaya
was the implementation partner for the project. On 26 Mar 2025, Pallavi Kumari,
Director of DEI and CSR at AGS Health, inaugurated the RO water plants at
Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Poothapedu and Chennai Middle
School, Poothapedu, in the presence of school children, parents, teachers,
school management, and Sevalaya staff. Sakthi Prasanna, AGM, DEI and CSR at
AGS Health, also graced the occasion. The plants, built at a cost of ₹10 lakhs,
each with a capacity of 500 litres per hour, are set to benefit more than 4,500
children and staff across the three schools. During her speech, Pallavi Kumari
emphasised the importance of girls' education and urged students to excel
in all fields, stay committed to their studies and careers, and contribute to
society while also protecting the environment, with a focus on cleanliness in
daily activities. Sakthi Prasanna encouraged the students to pursue education
diligently and emphasised the importance of financial independence, advising
them not to quit their jobs as it is crucial for supporting their families.
He also reminded the students and staff to properly maintain the RO plant
for consistent access to clean drinking water. V Muralidharan, Founder and
Managing Trustee of Sevalaya, welcomed the gathering and reflected on how tap
water used to be naturally clean and safe in earlier times, but with
changing times, this access has diminished. He highlighted the significance
of the newly installed RO water plant, ensuring students receive pure drinking
water essential for their health. He also spoke about AGS Health’s contributions
to the medical field and Sevalaya’s efforts to support education and community
welfare, adding that the RO plant’s maintenance is secured for the next year.
S Santhalakshmi, Headmistress of Porur GGHSS, shared that many students come
from distant places like Madurai and Trichy, with many from single-parent
households where parents work as daily wage laborers, auto drivers, and
housekeeping staff in nearby offices. She expressed gratitude for the installation
of the RO water plant and requested continued maintenance and the installation of
CCTV cameras for the school’s security. The school, which has over 1,798 girl
students and 69 staff members, has a strong academic track record, with many
students pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. B Arulmozhi, Assistant
Headmistress of Chennai Middle School, Porur, thanked the sponsors
and assured that the school’s Eco Club would take responsibility for maintaining
the RO plant. With 542 students from LKG to Std VIII, the school operates as a
co-educational institution with 26 staff members.
S A Vasanthi, Headmistress of GHSS Kundrathur, conveyed her appreciation for the
timely installation of the RO plant, which serves 2,254 girl students from Std VI
to XII. The plant is strategically placed near the science lab, ensuring easy access,
especially during hot summer months, and provides clean drinking water across two
school blocks. She thanked Sevalaya and AGS Health for delivering the much-needed
facility. Sevalaya staff members, including Prasanna P, Vice President of Donor
Relations, Ashok Kumar L, AVP of Operations, and Suresh S C, Project Coordinator
at Sevalaya, participated in the event.
