A documentary film commemorating Sevalaya’s 38-year journey of service was released on 25 August 2026 at Arkay Convention Centre, Mylapore, Chennai. Thambi Thamizharasan, Editor- in-Chief, Maalai Murasu TV, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and released the film.
The Chief Guest along with popular speaker Isaikkavi Ramanan and Sundar, Sevalaya supporter and nephew of Chellamma Bharathi, lit the traditional lamp and garlanded the portraits of Bharathi, Gandhi and Vivekananda to mark the beginning of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Thambi Thamizharasan described Sevalaya as a true “Temple of Service” and said that the ideals of Bharathi, Gandhi and Vivekananda were organically built into the foundation of its services. Emphasising the need to recognise and respond to the needs and suffering of others at a time when human values are declining, he referred to the universal humanism reflected in the Sangam literature phrase “Yaadhum Oore”. He concluded by quoting a Thirukkural verse that says, “God hastens to help those who work for the upliftment of others.”
The video captures Sevalaya’s 38-year journey from its beginnings in 1988, when it started by providing education to five children rescued from brick kilns in Tiruvallur district. It showcases Sevalaya’s work in education, healthcare, care for destitute children and elders, rural development, skill development, organic farming, environmental protection and animal welfare, contributing to improving the lives of nearly 20,00,000 people across seven states in India.
Speaking on the occasion, Sandeep Sai, Director of the film, thanked Sevalaya Founder and Managing Trustee V Muralidharan and Executive Committee Member Thomas T Abraham for their support. He expressed his happiness at having travelled with the committed Sevalaya team over the past six months.
Earlier, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya, welcomed the gathering and spoke about Sevalaya’s journey from its beginnings in a small hut to its present presence across 66 centres and seven states, working in various areas of service.
