Forest Minister K Ramachandran inaugurates ₹1 Crore Air to Water Project at Vandalur Zoo

Nissan Motor India Private Ltd, has partnered with Sevalaya to implement the innovative Air to Water Project at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, Chengelpet District, as a part of its CSR initiatives.

The 1 crore  Air to Water project was  inaugurated by Shri K.Ramachandran, Honourable Minister Forest Department Govt of Tamil Nadu, on Saturday, the 18th December 2021 in the presence of Supriya Shau IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Environment, Climate change and Forests, Govt of TamilNadu, and Dr.Shekar Kumar Niraj, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest & Chief Wildlife Warden TamilNadu. V. Karunapriya IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Director, Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, Dr. Kanchana IFS, Deputy Director, Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, Vani Aiyer, General Manager – Corporate Communication, Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd, and V. Muralidharan,  Founder and Managing Trustee of Sevalaya participated in the function.

Under this Project, the moisture in the atmosphere is condensed into water by an Atmospheric Water Generator and Remineralizer, purified and safe and pure drinking water is provided to the visitors at the 2 water kiosks set up in the zoo.

The plan has a capacity to produce 1000 litres of pure water per day per kiosk. On a day 2000 litres of water is available for the visitors at the two kiosks, catering to about 1000 visitors per day, staff and animals at the Zoo.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shri K.Ramachandran, Honourable Minister Forest Department Govt of TN appreciated the services of Sevalaya, which has been working for the welvare of the underprivileged for the past 34 years. “I personally know well about Sevalaya services for the welfare of the tribes in Gudalur, Nilgiris district “the Minister said.

“Ensuring the health and hygiene of people will be of prime importance at this critical stage of COVID period. Implementation of Air to Water Plants is a significant step in the same direction which aims to help the public, other staff at the Zoo, and animals to get access to clean and safe drinking water. The innovative technology of converting the moisture in the air to water is a long-lasting solution for the drinking water scarcity also. I thank Nissan company for funding this Project and Sevalaya for implementing it effectively. ” the Minister added.

Dr. Kanchana IFS, Deputy Director, Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, in her address saidm “I am very happy to note that this Project has been implemented at a place where there is a great need.”

Karunapriya IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Director, Arignar Anna Zoological Park thanked Nissan and Sevalaya for implementing the Project at Vandalur Zoo. “The zoo is a tourist spot which attracts thousands of visitors and it is absolutely essential that safe pure drinking water is made available to the people. “ she noted.

Vani Aiyer, General Manager – Corporate Communication, Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd, appreciated Sevalaya for implementing the Project efficiently and thanked the Government for its support.

Supriya Shau IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Environment, Climate change and Forests, Govt of TamilNadu, stressed the need to conserve wild life  insisted that students should be encouraged to study about wild life.

Sevalaya Murali, Founder & Managing Trustee, Sevalaya welcomed the gathering. L Ashok Kumar , AVP, Operations proposed Vote of Thanks.

The function ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
