Sevalaya celebrated Mahakavi Bharathiyar’s Birth anniversary at its Kasuva campus auditorium in a grand manner. Mr. Bhagwan Singh, Executive Editor, Deccan Chronicle participated as the Chief Guest to the function and delivered his speech to the students.
Recalling the freedom events and struggle carried on by our fore-fathers, he said even wealthier persons involved themselves in the struggle and sacrificed their lives. The post-independent India marked with various problems, he noted. However, he said he sees future of India in the students of Sevalaya. He gave a clarion call that they should raise up to the occasion in the service to the motherland .
Mr. V. Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, in his brief welcome address said that Sevalaya translates Bharathi’s dreams of educating poor. In his welcome speech, he recalled the close association with Mr. Bhagwan Singh.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the district level competitions conducted for students of schools in Tiruvallore district.
Sevalaya children presented a colourful cultural programme based on the poems of Bharathi.
6 volunteers from Germany, Scotland and Denmark also participated in the celebrations and presented a dance.
