Yoga for Healthy Ageing: International Yoga Day Celebrated at Sevalaya

Yogasharan V S Prakash, Holistic Coach and Yoga Therapist, Atma Niranjan Yoga Vidyalaya, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He conducted an engaging yoga session for over 250 students, elders and staff from Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School, Community College and Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Old Age Home. Participants from Sevalaya’s centres in Thanjavur, Dharmapuri, Ravanasamudram and Zamin Endathur also joined the programme online.

Speaking on the occasion, Yogasharan V S Prakash explained the origins and significance of Yoga. He said that the word “Yoga” is derived from the Sanskrit root word “Yuj,” meaning “to unite.” He highlighted the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of Yoga and conducted an interactive session demonstrating various asanas and explaining their benefits.

Earlier, Sevalaya Murali, Founder and Managing Trustee, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the importance of incorporating Yoga into daily life for overall health and well-being. Students presented cultural performances. Bhuvaneswari Muralidharan, Honorary Correspondent, Sevalaya, delivered the Vote of Thanks. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest in appreciation of his participation.
