“Our duty is to serve the needy” – Tamil Writer Pattukkottai Prabhakar at Bharathi Ula 2021 function at Sevalaya

Uratha Sinthanai Readers and Writer’s forum and Nam Uratha Sinthanai , a Tamil monthly magazine jointly organise Bharathi Ula function every year in various schools at different districts of Tamilnadu. The aim of this programme is to celebrate Bharathi’s birthday by spreading the inspiring life and messages of Mahakavi Bharathiyar among the next generation,.

Bharathi Ula 2021 was celebrated at Sevalaya’s Kasuva centre on 21st December 2021.

The function commenced with a soulful rendering of Bharathiyar songs by S Saradha and T Thembavani, students of Sevalaya.

Students S Gayathri, T Raswanth, R Vilasini, K Manikandan, B Krithiga and R M Soundaryalakshmi spoke eloquently on various topics related to the messages of Bharathi.

Prizes were distributed to all the students who participated in the singing and oratorical event at the Bharathi ula function.

Udhayam Ram, General Secretary, Uratha Sindhanai, in his welcome address,  explained about the Bharathi Ula function, conducted every year.

Sevalaya Murali, Founder & Managing Trustee Sevalaya explained the activities of the organisation in his keynote address.

The Chief Guest writer Pattukkottai Prabhakar in his speech said” Bharathi is multi-dimensional personality – a fine human being, connoisseur of arts,  a person with social consciousness, writer, and poet.  I am very happy to participate in the Bharathi Ula programme, especially at Sevalaya which is the effect of an inspiration drawn from a poem of Bharathi. It is our duty to serve others. As students, your duty is to make use of the opportunities provided by Sevalaya, study well and come up in life.” He encouraged the students to read good books.

Kalaimamani J Balasubramanian, the Managing Trustee, Savithri Foundation, insisted that it is not enough if to just read and appreciate Bharathi’s poems. “One should live according to the values learnt from the poet’s writings,” he said. He also donated 100 books to the Sevalaya library.

Padmini Pattabiraman, President, Uratha Sinthanai appreciated the students and wished them to achieve more laurels by developing their talents in singing and public speaking.

Pichammal, Executive Committee Member, Uratha Sinthanai offered felicitations to the students.

Earlier S Kanchana, Head, Value Education, Sevalaya welcomed the gathering. Udhayam Ram proposed a vote of thanks.
