
International Day of Yoga was celebrated on 21 Jun 2025 at Sevalaya’s Kasuva
Centre in Tiruvallur and various other Sevalaya centres across Tamil Nadu.
Thara Natarajan, Consultant and Therapist, Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram,
Chennai graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and conducted an engaging
yoga session for 350 students, elders and staff from Sevalaya’s Mahakavi
Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School, Community College and Sri Ramakrishna
Paramahamsa Old Age Home. Around 100 students, elders and staff from Sevalaya’s
Community Colleges, Tuition Centres and Old Age Homes in Chennai, Nilgiris,
Thanjavur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tenkasi and Thoothukudi participated
in the session online and performed yoga. Yoga, Naturopathy and Fitness experts
graced the occasion in many of these centres and conducted yoga sessions for
the participants. Starting the session with a prayer, Thara Natarajan said,
“We celebrate Father’s Day, Mother’s Day every year. But do we remember our
parents only on that day? No. Similarly, while we celebrate Yoga day today,
Yoga is something we need to do everyday and not just today. It helps us
maintain good physical and mental health”. She further said, “Krishnamachary
lived up to the age of 101. Age is not a barrier to do yoga. He used to
say that we can do yoga until our last breath.” She concluded by saying
that we all lead stressful lives nowadays and yoga can help us overcome
stress too. As Thara Natarajan provided guidance and S Aishwarya from
Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram performed Yoga on stage, the participants
followed their lead and performed various yoga exercises. Snacks were
provided to the participants. Earlier Bhuvaneswari Muralidharan,
Honorary Correspondent, Sevalaya welcomed the Chief Guest and the
participants. R Vijaya, Head- Education, Sevalaya delivered
the Vote of Thanks and shared that the last ten minutes of Physical
Education classes will be allocated for Yoga going forward. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest.
