10th RESULTS: Sevalaya Achieves 99.20% Pass Results

Dear All,

128 out 0f 129 students passed the Xth standard board exams with more than 64% scoring first division marks of whom26% scored more than 75%.

Considering the fact that these students are all first generation learners who have no parental support and have to help out their parents at times, this is no small achievement. Hard work by students, sincere efforts of teachers and unstinted support of well-wishers have once again proved to be the winning combination. Compared to the lives they lead now, these students are surely on the way to a brighter future.

Many of these students live in small single room houses with no special facilities for studying. These children also have to help out their parents, who mostly work as daily wage earners and struggle to keep the family afloat.

The credit for this achievement definitely goes to the unstinted support of well-wishers, philanthropists and corporates who have always stood by Sevalaya. The teachers of Sevalaya spare no efforts to coach the children and spend extra hours in the mornings, evenings and all holidays to sit with their wards and patiently guide them at their own pace. In the evenings’ many houses have drunken parents creating a nuisance and children are able to study only because they remain at school with their teachers. Snacks from the dining hall give them energy and the teachers’ presence, a world of comfort where they forget about all the troubles at home and concentrate on their studies. Sevalaya wishes to thank its well-wishers and staff for their support without which all this would not have been possible.

The school has been functioning with the support of public and corporate for the past 30 years, without any government grant. We dedicate this success to the donors who have extended their unstinting support in our journey.

Currently, 2078 children are studying in this school and 500 students studying in community colleges. As you all know, these children are from poor families of daily wage labourers. Like the past 30 years this year also we appeal to you for support.  Sevalaya is also planning to start a new school accommodating 2000 more students at Gunipalayam near Uthukottai, in Thiruvallur district.
