Students of Sevalaya Achieve 100% Pass Results

Sevalaya’s Kasuva campus was filled with laughter and relief on 19th April 2019. All 135 students who appeared for the Std XII board exams held in March 2019 had successfully cleared the exams with excellent marks. 66% of students secured first division marks.  The highest scoring student gained 555 / 600 marks ( 93%). Each year sees steady improvement in the performance of students.

This achievement is made even more remarkable by the fact that many of these students live in small single room houses with no special facilities for studying. These children have to help out their parents who mostly work as daily wage earners and struggle to keep the family afloat. 13 of them are homeless children, living in Sevalaya’s hostel. One student is differently abled.

Credit should also be given to the teachers of Sevalaya, who have spared no efforts to coach the children and spend extra hours in the mornings, evenings and holidays to assist their study and revision. In the evenings many houses have drunken parents and other disturbances, so without the evening study sessions held by the teachers, they would be unable to study outside of school hours. Snacks are provided from the dining hall give them energy, and the teachers’ presence, a world of comfort where they forget about all the troubles at home and concentrate on their studies.

Outside of Kasuva, Sevalaya’s tuition centres at 4 locations have been coaching nearly 100 students, who have been showing remarkable improvement in their academics as a result. Breakfast programmes in 2 government schools in Thanjavur district have supported 874 students in their board exam studies. In one of these schools, the pass percentage has increased from 67% to 72%! 125 students of 5 Panchayat Union schools are also being provided with daily breakfast. Sevalaya wishes to thank its wellwishers and staff for their support without which all this would not have been possible.
