Sevalaya has taken the first small step of starting a Sports Academy to provide proper training for the rural poor children who have a flair for sports. The academy was inaugurated on 13th June 2015 at Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School.
While inaugurating the Sports Academy, Dr. Iyappan, President, Thiruvallur District Athletic Association, He said it is essential for the students to participate in sports activities for their holistic development and schools must give as much importance to Sports as they give to academics. He also said that as an added benefit, sports persons get placements in Banks and Govt . Departments like the Railways, Police, and Electricity Board etc.
He assured that the Thiruvallur District Athletic Association will provide all necessary support to the Sevalaya Sports Academy. The Academy at present provides training to the students in Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball and Handball.
Also present at the inauguration were A. Chitti babu, President, Thiruvallur District Handball Association, Dr. M. Senthil, Secretary, Thiruvallur District Handball Association and Mr. Mahalingam, Former National Volleyball player.
Earlier Mr. E. Lakshmi Narayanan, Trustee of Sevalaya welcomed the gathering. Mr. Sankarapandian, Physical Director of the school proposed the vote of thanks.
