With the twin objective rewarding the toppers in Std X and XII in schools in Thanjavur and creating awareness about the visionary poet Mahakavi Bharathi, Sevalaya organised the staging of Bharathi Yaar – a bio play on Mahakavi Bharathi at _Gurudayal Sarma Trust Marriage Hall, Thanjavur on 23rd June 2018. The drama produced by SB Creations was a delightful combination of drama, music and dance on Bharthi’s songs. The novelty of the play was the use of technology to project backdrops appropriate to the scenes on a LED screen. The programme was open to all.
The hall was fully packed with 1000+ audience which included around 200 students and the public of Thanjavur.
Mahakavi Bharathi came live on stage with Isaikkavi Ramanan stealing the show as Bharathiyar with his electrifying performance ably supported by Dharma Raman as Chellammal, Carnatic Music exponent Vijay Siva as Kuvalai Kannan and ‘Giri’ T S Ranganathan as Chellammal’s brother and other artistes. The drama which included dance and Bharathiyar songs was directed by S B Raman s/o the legendary Veena Maestro S Balachander.
