Sports Day was celebrated on 18 Mar 2026 at Sevalaya’s centre in Kasuva village, near Thiruninravur, Tiruvallur. US-based Sevalaya donor Seetharaman Narayanan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with his sister Seetha.
Speaking on the occasion, Seetharaman asked the students, “What is your favourite class in school?” The students replied, “Sports period,” in unison. “I was introduced to Sevalaya six years ago by a friend. I have been sponsoring various sports activities here since then and I am happy to finally visit Sevalaya today. All of you should remember Bharathiyar’s verses: ‘Odi Vilaiyaadu Paapa, Nee Oindhirukkalaakaathu Paapa’. When I was a child, I did not have a proper space to play.
Here at Sevalaya, you are lucky to have good facilities and space to engage in sports. Your Physical Director, Sankarapandian sir, sends me monthly reports of your sports activities and achievements. Murali sir here has dedicated his life to you. Education and sports are equally important in life,” he said. The Annual Sports Report was presented by Sankarapandian A, Physical Director, Sevalaya. He also highlighted the victories of Sevalaya students in State and National level competitions in volleyball, handball, basketball, chess and athletics during 2025-26.
The Chief Guest felicitated students from LKG to Std IX who won various sports competitions organised as part of the Sports Day celebrations. A total of 1,730 students participated in these events. Gandhi House won the overall championship and was presented with a trophy.
Earlier V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya welcomed the gathering and spoke about the importance of sports as an integral part of education. “Every year we celebrate Sports day to highlight this importance. Sports activities promote physical well-being and team spirit. Our students do so well in sports that when they go for higher education, around 25% of them are able to get admission through the Sports quota.”, he said.
Students presented engaging cultural performances. Sankarapandian delivered the Vote of Thanks and expressed gratitude to the donors, Sevalaya management, coaches and teachers for their support. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Vijaya R, Head – Education, Sevalaya.
