Homes

Since 1988, Sevalaya runs the Swami Vivekananda Boys’ Home and Mother Teresa Girls’ Home, nurturing 100+ orphaned and destitute children with food, shelter, education, healthcare, and counselling support. Counselling is provided by professionally trained staff working full time at Sevalaya, ensuring individual care, emotional stability, and healthy development for children from difficult backgrounds. Alongside academics, they learn arts, sports, and cultural activities, practise organic farming, interact with elders in the Old Age Home, and care for cows at the gaushala. Weekly evening sessions showcase and encourage their talents, building confidence and self-expression.

  • 1,100+ children provided with shelter, food, and education
  • Children grow into confident, socially responsible, and self-reliant citizens

Sevalaya runs four Old Age Homes across Tamil Nadu, currently caring for 130 destitute elders (men and women).

Elders participate in leisurely activities and games, gardening, temple visits and outings and spirituality sessions. They also share their lives with children from Sevalaya’s Homes on the same campus, fostering bonds across generations. Sevalaya also takes care of their end-of-life needs and conducts their funerals with dignity.

Impact

  • 550+ elders provided life with dignity

Sevalaya has been selected as the implementation partner for the Tamil Nadu Government’s Integrated Homes Project, under which, 25 destitute elders and 25 orphan/destitute children will be housed together in a campus- thus facilitating bonding and creation of a family like atmosphere for the children and the elders.

Since 1990, Sevalaya runs the Vinobaji Gaushala for abandoned, dry and aged cows. Over 100 cows are sheltered at Kasuva, Tiruvallur and Zamin Endathur, Chengalpattu. The cow dung is used for organic farming and biogas, which meets 30% of the Kasuva kitchen’s fuel needs. Gau Pooja, Gaudhanam and Agathi Keerai offerings for the cows are arranged on request.
