International Women’s day celebrations at Sevalaya

  • On 4th March 2015, Sevalaya focusing Women Empowerment Through Education (WETE) Project  in Ayalur Village, Thiruvallur District,  with a view to eradicate Women-illiteracy in the village.  This centre will function exclusively  to educate women.

The uniqueness of this initiative is that Sevalaya’s alumni group and  children of Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharatiyar Higher Secondary School,  will take classes for the  village women. With this unique idea the centre has been inaugurated by Ms. Anu Oza, a noted Social activist (Daughter of Mr. Oza, I.A.S. Retd.) has taken keen interest to evolve working and planning to pursue this project effectively.
Over 200 persons from the nearby villages participated in the function. Besides, foreign volunteers , who take keen interest in Sevalaya’s activities also attended.

  • On 6th March 2015,  The girls are studying beautician course at Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Community College participated in the Women’s day celebration held at Lionbridge Technologies, Chennai. Lionbridge sponsored beauty treatments for their staff by the beautician students. The day was celebrated with a  few games.
  • From 7th – 8th March 2015, International Women’s day was celebrated at Sevalaya, located at Kasuva Village in Thiruvallur district.

Guest of the day were “The Women of VA Tech Wabag” .  They conducted games and interacted with Class XI and Community College girls and motivated them to take up a career and be self reliant.

250 volunteers from SPI Global chose to celebrate their CSR day at Sevalaya, located at kasuva village, coinciding with women’s day. They conducted games for the children.

Earlier Sevalaya students presented a cultural highlighting the events which led to the celebration on March 8th as Women’s day. They presented skits and dance about atrocities on women and the need to develop a healthy mindset towards women & society.

  • Ms. Radha Srinivasan of PR team will give a talk to the staff of Haworth India Pvt Ltd on “Women at Work & Women’s role in development” , as part of Womens day, on  9th March 2015.

Earlier, V. Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee of Sevalaya welcomed the gathering and Mr. Amarchand Jain, proposed vote of thanks.
