“Like Rain That Gives Unceasingly”: Hon’ble Mr Justice Sunder Mohan Hails Sevalaya’s 38 Years of Service
Sevalaya celebrated its 38th Annual Day on 9 August 2026 at its Kasuva Centre, near Thiruninravur, Tiruvallur.
Hon'ble Mr Justice Sunder Mohan, Judge, Madras High Court, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He released Sevalaya's 38th Annual Report. Sevalaya supporter from Madurai, Dr V Thangavelsamy, received the first copy of the Annual Report. The Chief Guest felicitated outstanding students, supporters, volunteers, alumni and employees from all over South India for their achievements and contributions.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon'ble Mr Justice Sunder Mohan said that he was extremely happy to be part of Sevalaya's Annual Day celebrations. Though 15 judges were being sworn in on the same day, he as well as his colleagues readily agreed that his presence at Sevalaya was more important.
Recalling his participation in Sevalaya's 30th Annual Day 8 years ago, he said he was struck by the vast growth in Sevalaya’s services over the years. “Sevalaya has grown significantly, while its Founder and Managing Trustee, V Muralidharan, has remained unchanged in his commitment to service,” he said. Referring to Thiruvalluvar's description of rain that gives continuously without expecting anything in return, he compared Sevalaya's service to this spirit of continuous giving. He also hailed the unflinching support for Sevalaya's activities provided by Bhuvaneswari Muralidharan, Muralidharan's wife, through all these years.
He also appreciated Sevalaya's emphasis on value-based education, observing that morals and values are more important than intelligence alone. He also expressed his appreciation for the various impactful stories covered in Sevalaya's annual report and Sevalaya's documentary, which moved him emotionally. He congratulated the organisation for its achievements and wished Sevalaya success in its proposed university initiative.
The Chief Guest presented a wide range of awards recognising long-term service, volunteerism and outstanding contributions to Sevalaya's mission by supporters from all over South India. Various awards instituted by donors were presented to Std X and XII Board Examination toppers and students who secured top marks in Mathematics, Science, Tamil, Physics and Chemistry.
Employees who completed 5, 10, 15 and 25 years of dedicated service received Long-Term Service Awards. The Best Alumni Award, Best Supporter Awards, Certificate of Appreciation Award, Rising Star Award and Best Employee Award were also presented.
The programme commenced with Sevalaya children presenting the prayer song ‘Achamillai’, followed by a classical dance performance. Students also presented a special cultural showcase depicting Sevalaya's activities and the awards received by the organisation over the past 38 years.
Earlier, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya, welcomed the gathering and highlighted Sevalaya's journey from its beginnings with just five children and two staff members to an organisation that has impacted nearly 20,00,000 lives in 38 years. He attributed the successful journey to the blessings of Bharathi, Gandhi and Vivekananda and the support of donors, well-wishers, volunteers and the community.
A memento was presented to the Chief Guest by Thomas T Abraham, Member-Executive Committee, Sevalaya. M Amarchand Jain, Executive Committee Member, Sevalaya, delivered the vote of thanks. The event was attended by Sevalaya's supporters, Board members, Executive Committee members and other well-wishers.
