20 Underprivileged Students from Sevalaya Visit IISc Bengaluru Open House

20 underprivileged students studying Std VIII and IX at Sevalaya’s Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School in Kasuva village near Thiruninravur, Tiruvallur, visited the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)- Bengaluru campus for the Open House event on 7 Mar 2026. The event was aimed at inspiring children from rural and underprivileged backgrounds to take up science and technology careers.

Three Sevalaya staff members and V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee of Sevalaya and an IISc alumnus, accompanied the students on the trip. The entire travel expenses for the trip was sponsored by Murthy Gudipati, IISc alumnus and
Senior Scientist at NASA.

Bangaruswamy from the Alumni Association of IISc guided the students through the Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Physics departments. The children keenly observed the exhibits across various departments and asked inquisitive questions about the various exhibits and gadgets on display. Ganesan Rajaram, President- Alumni Association of IISc, made the lunch arrangements.

Breakfast, accommodation and dinner for the students were arranged by Sevalaya’s well- wisher, Dr A Madhusudhan Babu Principal / Secretary – Little Flower High School, Bengaluru. The students and teachers expressed their heartfelt thanks to the IISc team and the Alumni Association for their warm hospitality and arrangements. The students also visited the statue of
J N Tata, the founder of IISc. J N Tata had founded the institute after a conversation with Swami Vivekananda, with the aim of inculcating scientific temper in the minds of Indian youth. It is noteworthy that the activities of Sevalaya are also aligned with the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, one of the inspirations of Sevalaya.
