Tiruvallur District Collector and District Election Officer M Prathap I A S presided over an election awareness programme for residents of various old age homes at the Sevalaya centre located at Kasuva village near Thiruninravur, on 17 Feb 2026.
Tiruvallur District Additional Collector, District Social Welfare Officer and Tahsildar also
attended the event along with V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee of Sevalaya. 21 Community College students and approximately 150 elderly residents from Sri Sai Home, Swagatham Foundation, Sushila Home, Home Sweet Home, Kavasa Foundation and Sevalaya’s Old Age Homes took part in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector encouraged all elderly people to vote in the upcoming Assembly elections. He said that those who do not have voting rights in Tiruvallur and those who have migrated here will be given the required forms for adding their names in the electoral rolls. He said that arrangements would be made for filling in the forms through volunteers.
He also said that arrangements would be made for the elderly who have completed 85 years of age to vote from their place of residence itself. Following this, he administered an election pledge to everyone present. The Collector also presented the elders with flower crowns and shawls, inquired about their well-being and encouraged them to vote. He also taught an elderly resident how to vote using the voting machine.
Earlier, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee of Sevalaya, delivered the welcome address and welcomed the District Collector and the government officials present on the occasion. Emphasising that everyone should exercise their right to vote, he briefly explained the various social activities of Sevalaya. He also presented a memento to the District Collector. The school students presented a colourful cultural programme.
