On 2 Feb 2026, Sevalaya and Fortess celebrated the felicitation ceremony of the Digital Literacy Programme at Thyagi Valliammai Government Higher Secondary School, Thillaiyadi. Fortess sponsors the Digital Literacy programme at the school. Sevalaya, a registered charitable trust headquartered in Chennai runs the programme.
P R Krishnan, Secretary – Fortess and Former EVP – TCS, his family members Savitha Krishnan and Thangam Venkatesan along with K Subramanian, Former Head – Delivery Excellence, TCS graced the occasion as Chief Guests. M Gopalakrishnan, Head Master – Thyagi Valliammai Government Higher Secondary School, Thillaiyadi, nearly 250 students from Std VI to IX, teachers, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee – Sevalaya and staff members of Sevalaya also participated in the event.
During his speech, Krishnan said, “I saw a computer for the first time only after I joined TCS for my job. I learnt how to use it only after that. Today I am happy to see that rural students like you have completed the 6 month course in computers and are well-versed in it”. Subramanian in his speech congratulated the students who won prizes in the Digital Literacy Day competitions. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the students who completed the course and to the 33 students who won in the Digital Literacy Day competitions.
Sevalaya also conducts Digital Literacy Programmes in Chennai, Sirkali and Kancheepuram. Muralidharan in his speech talked about how Thyagi Valliammai practised Satyagraha under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa. He also shared that Sevalaya was running a medical centre focused on women’s health in Thillaiyadi in honour of Thyagi Valliammai. Earlier Vijaya R, Head – Education, Sevalaya welcomed the gathering. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Headmaster, M Gopalakrishnan.
