
Sevalaya celebrated the 79th Independence Day on 15 Aug 2025 with patriotic fervour across its centres in Tamil Nadu. The Tricolour was ceremoniously hoisted in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Dharmapuri, Kancheepuram, Thanjavur, The Nilgiris, and Thoothukudi, with alumni and current students, staff and members of the public joining in to honour the nation’s spirit of freedom. K B Bhuvaneshwari, Alumna, Sevalaya and Radiographer, Artemis Curepipe Hospital, Mauritius was the Chief Guest at Sevalaya’s centre at Kasuva village, Tiruvallur. Ramesh Balaji, Technopreneur, Tata Consultancy Services (Research&Innovation Division) was the Chief Guest at Sevalaya’s Head Office in
Alwarpet, Chennai. As the Chief Guests hoisted the flag, Bharathiyar’s song Thaayin Manikkodi Paareer, played and everyone paid their respects to the flag. Sweets were distributed to the gathering. Everyone gathered sang the national anthem. In her speech to the students, Bhuvaneswari said, “Many of those who have achieved success today have also faced failure. Therefore, you should not be discouraged by failure but instead keep moving towards success. By Std X, you should make up your mind about the field you want to work in, study well, get good marks and enter that field. Whatever field you choose, take advice from people related to that field and succeed in life. Sports too should be given the same importance as education.” She concluded by wishing students the best in their lives. At the event in Chennai, Ramesh Balaji in his speech thanked Sevalaya for the invitation and congratulated the organisation for providing freedom to children and youth through education, and dignity to elders through its services. He also shared that through his work at Tata Consultancy Services,
a technological platform was being used to provide monitoring and caregiving services to elderly people living alone in Singapore and across the world. At Kasuva, Many alumni students had arrived a day before and made the necessary preparations for the programme. Sevalaya students, trained by alumni Icepriya and Surender, presented a colorful dance performance. Surender, who works as a dance teacher, also presented his dance. BEAT Orchestra from Chennai sang patriotic songs on the occasion. A blood donation camp organized by Dr Narmatha, an alumna was also held during the function. 68 units of blood were collected in the camp attended by alumni, parents, teachers and villagers.
Narmatha in her speech said, “Soldiers work day and night for us on our country’s borders so that we can be healthy here. We can pay our gratitude to them by living with discipline and succeeding in life without conflicts among ourselves.”
Alumni A Abhiraj, who is working in the Tamil Nadu Government School Education Department, said, “The dream of the Tamil Nadu Government School Education Department is a 100 percent pass rate. Sevalaya has been achieving this dream for many years. Sevalaya students have been achieving in sports too. You must have a dream of your own. To achieve that dream, you should work hard, succeed, and
come back to Sevalaya and do your best to help others.” Alumni Ilayaraja extended his congratulations to the newly elected members of the Alumni Association ‘Alam Vizhuthugal’. The Alumni Association donated ₹70,000 for Sevalaya during the function. A member of the BEAT Orchestra who was impressed by Sevalaya’s Old Age Home pledged to donate ₹10,000. said, Sevalaya’s Founder and Managing Trustee, V Muralidharan presented a cheque to S Joshitha, a student who has completed Std XII, for her higher studies at PSG College, Coimbatore.
Alumni students Vaishnavi and Abinesh hosted the programme. Moreover, all the arrangements for the programme were successfully made by the alumni students themselves. An Alumni Association meeting was held on the occasion in which around 120 students participated. Earlier, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya welcomed the gathering.
