Volunteer

At Sevalaya, we have been fortunate to host volunteers not only from across India but from around the world. We believe in a two-way relationship, where both volunteers and the organisation learn, grow, and benefit meaningfully through the experience.

Volunteers have come in groups to spend the day here, have helped out with week long projects, while some have even stayed an entire year!

There is much to be done at Sevalaya, with a wide range of facilities and initiatives spread across 65 locations in 7 states and over 580 villages across India. Volunteers can choose to contribute based on their interests, skills and time availability, across areas such as our Admin Office, Schools, After-School Study Centres, Children Homes, Old Age Homes, Hospitals, Medical Centres, Mobile Medical Vans, Community Colleges, Libraries, Gaushalas, organic farms, model villages, and various project locations.

Volunteers get the opportunity to be part of real, on-ground grassroots work with visible impact, directly improving lives in rural and underserved communities. Much of this work aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), giving volunteers a chance to contribute to larger global objectives through meaningful local action.

Each individual brings their own energy and skills. We welcome all volunteers with an open heart and mind to join Sevalaya in its initiatives for the welfare of the underprivileged and rural development.

They chose to do it:

Mr. David Kovara, a University student from New Jersey, USA, spent two months in the summer of  2000 and completed two projects – a computerised inventory system for our Medical Center and developing the interests and talent of our children in painting (Murals).

Charlotte Chapman, a community artist from the UK and Mr. Andrews, Drawing Master at Sevalaya, worked with the children in Plastic Bottle Bird Project. Charlotte Chapman, who conceived this project, came to Sevalaya’s Kasuva centre through Children’s Art Village, a registered arts charity in USA.. These birds were exhibited in the Russian Cultural Centre, Chennai.

For the past 5 years educational charity Project Trust have sent two young volunteers from the UK for 11 month placements to teach English at Sevalaya, and to be a helping hand in the wider campus at Kasuva Village.
