Urattha Sinthanai Readers Writers; Association Celebrates Bharathi Ula Festival at Sevalaya

The Bharathi Ula festival was held at Sevalaya, located in Kasuva village, near Thiruninravur, Tiruvallur on 4 Dec 2025.The Urattha Sinthanai Readers Writers' Association and Nam Urattha Sinthanai Tamil monthly magazine have been taking Bharathi and his message to the younger generation. In the past few years, Bharathi’s birthday celebration has been taken by them to various towns under the name ‘Bharathi Ula’.

The programme began with a song and dance performance on Bharathi songs. In a seminar titled ‘Bharatha Nadu Parukkellam Thilakam’, the students spoke and highlighted Bharathi’s views on the topic. Students who answered questions during the seminar were given a book titled ‘Irandu Vari Kaaviyam’ signed by Popular Tamil Writer Pattukottai Prabhakar, as a gift.
Tamil teachers who trained the students were also honoured during the programme.

All the students who spoke and performed during the event were given prizes. K Kaviya was selected as the best speaker and was awarded ₹1,000 and a special prize. She will participate in the finalcompetition to be held in February. Udayam Ram, General Secretary of Uratha Sinthanai Sangam, welcomed everyone and thanked them for their participation in the event. Joint Secretary, Poet Ko Subramanian shared a few thoughts about Bharathiyar. He also congratulated Sevalaya Muralidharan, who was instrumental in installing a statue of Bharathiyar’s wife Chellamma, who was a pillar of strength to Bharathiyar.

Dr N Panchapakesan, Founder of Chennai Sai Sankara Matrimonials Group, graced the event as the Chief Guest. In his speech to the students he said, “It is a great fortune that you are all studying at Sevalaya. Sevalaya Muralidharan is giving you education by collecting donations from others. Be good children, study well and progress in life. You are the future teachers, doctors, policemen and engineers. When you attain a good position in the future, you should help Sevalaya again without forgetting how Sevalaya helped you. Your thoughts define your life. Live your life with virtuous thoughts. Whatever you do, you should do it efficiently, your actions should be beneficial to the society and you should always have a smiling face, enthusiasm and positive thoughts.” He also added that if the students followed these three principles in their life, they can become a better person. He also sang Bharathiyar songs in praise of nationalism, community, God and the Tamil language. He concluded by encouraging students to develop their interest in the Tamil language, learn Bharathiyar songs and wished them a prosperous life.

Earlier, S Kanchana, Head- Homes and Value Education, Sevalaya, delivered the welcome address. Sevalaya’s Founder and Managing Trustee, ‘Sevai Sudar’ V Muralidharan delivered the keynote address and mentioned that Sevalaya has been serving society for 37 years due to the strength drawn from the writings of Bharathiyar, Gandhi and Vivekananda.

During the programme, Sevalaya staff Vijaya and Mariyammal were honoured with Teaching Excellence awards by Uratha Sinthanai and Panchapakesan for bringing light to the lives of poor children. They in turn donated the prize money of ₹10,000 as a donation to Sevalaya. S Rajaram of Ayan Media and painter Mani also participated in the programme.
