Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Sevalaya’s centre at Kasuva Centre 5 Sep 2025.

Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Sevalaya’s centre at Kasuva village, near
Thiruninravur, Tiruvallur on 5 Sep 2025. Swami Apavarganandaji Maharaj, Editor,
Sri Ramakrishna Vijayam, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai graced the occasion as
Chief Guest. He inaugurated the programme by garlanding the portraits of
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Swami Vivekananda and lighting the kuthuvilakku.
Speaking on the occasion, Swami Apavarganandaji said, “Teaching is a sacred
profession. Teachers’ Day should be celebrated not just today but every day”.
He congratulated Sevalaya teachers for doing their job well. He also made a
presentation to the teachers about the state of education in the country which
gave importance to rote learning and stressed the need to encourage inventive
thinking among students. The presentation also covered the ideal of education
as taught by Swami Vivekananda- knowing oneself apart from learning about the
outside world, qualities of a good teacher and the types of students as
explained in Nannool, a Tamil treatise. He also highlighted the importance of
teachers by saying that farming, weaving, healthcare and teaching as the four
necessary trades for a society. He also said that students should be taught not
just regular subjects but also moral values. “Education that ignores moral
education is not real education. The backbone of India is spirituality, character,
and ancient culture. Teachers must teach this to the students. As teachers, are
you here merely for your salary or for contributing to social progress? Think
for a moment and ask yourself. Remember that the future of the nation is in the
hands of teachers.”, he concluded. The Chief Guest also visited Sevalaya’s
gaushala during his visit. Earlier, V Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee,
Sevalaya, welcomed the gathering and said that the duty of a teacher was to
create better citizens as envisioned by Swami Vivekananda and added that Sevalaya
has invited someone who is well-versed in Swami Vivekananda’s views as the Chief Guest.
Volunteers Vijayasree Raman and Ramana Bhaktavachalam also participated in the
programme. Hostel students and teachers enthusiastically joined in the bhajans
session conducted by Vijayasree Raman. A meditation session was also held.
