Sevalaya celebrated Deepavali at its centre in Kasuva village, Tiruvallur, near Thiruninravur, on 18 October 2025. Prakash Rangaraj, Vice President, HDFC Bank, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Sevalaya students, alumni, teachers, staff members and Home residents participated in the celebrations. The highlight of the event was the heartwarming gesture by Bhagath, a Class XII student who has no parents and lives at Sevalaya’s Children’s Home. He donated his ₹50,000 prize money from the Tamil Nadu CM Trophy towards Sevalaya’s activities.
An underprivileged student, he has been staying at Sevalaya’s Children’s Home for the past 8 years. Sevalaya identified his sports talent, and has coached him in basketball since Std IV. In the recently conducted Tamil Nadu CM Trophy, he was selected to represent Tiruvallur district in basketball. The competition took place from 1 to 7 October 2025 in Coimbatore. He won ₹50,000 in the competition. When his victory was announced, he promptly expressed his desire to donate the entire prize money to Sevalaya for its charitable activities. His gesture of donating such a significant amount despite his poor background was appreciated by everyone.
Anuj and Prince, two students from Bihar and Jharkhand respectively, who are pursuing law in Chennai, were also present on the occasion. Both are engaged in social service activities in their free time. All the guests advised the students to study well, make the best use of the opportunities at Sevalaya, succeed in life, and give back to society. Earlier, Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya, delivered the welcome address. The students presented colorful performances. Hostel students received new dresses for Deepavali.
Students happily burst crackers and spread the festive cheer. Selvan Suthakar, AVP, Donor Relations, Sevalaya delivered the Vote of Thanks. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest.
