On the occasion of Deepavali festival, Sevalaya celebrated the occasion at its centre in Kasuva village, Tiruvallur near Thiruninravur on 18 Oct 2025. Prakash Rangaraj, Vice President, HDFC Bank graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Speaking at the inauguration of the function and addressing the students, he outlined 5 principles of life for them to remember. “The first principle that you need to pursue is excellence in education. Second-discipline in everything you do. Thirdly, you need to support each other during ups and downs. Fourth, choose the right goal and work towards it diligently. Finally, once you succeed, pay back to society. Muralidharan, his wife and staff have been making great contributions to the development of this community for 38 years.
I will come back to Sevalaya and do my best to support your activities.”, he concluded and wished everyone a Happy Deepavali. Bharath, a Class XII student from Sevalaya’s Children’s Home who represented Tiruvallur in the Tamil Nadu CM Trophy Basketball games this month, donated his prize money of ₹50,000 to Sevalaya. Hariharan G, a former student of Sevalaya, who is currently pursuing a Physician Assistant course in Vels Medical College donated clothes, sweets and money to Sevalaya along with his friends. Anuj and Prince, two students who hail from Bihar and Jharkhand respectively, and are pursuing law in Chennai were also present on the occasion.
Both of them are doing social work activities in their free time. Anuj advised students to focus on their studies. “If you are focused on your goals, you will always get help from somewhere”, he said. Prince encouraged students to excel in education, co-curricular activities and sports and work towards their holistic development. “You will receive help to achieve your goals and you should in turn help others once you succeed”, he concluded.
Earlier, Muralidharan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sevalaya, delivered the welcome address. The students presented colorful performances. The monthly manuscript magazine ‘Vidiyal’ prepared by students with the guidance of teachers was released on the occasion. Hostel students received new dresses for Deepavali. Students happily burst crackers and spread the festive cheer. Selvan Suthakar, AVP, Donor Relations, Sevalaya delivered the Vote of Thanks. A memento was presented to the Chief Guest.
