As part of Sevalaya’s continuous initiatives in protecting and preserving the environment, Gandhi Unit (Rural development initiative) led by Trustee Mr. Thomas T Abraham visited Solid Waste Management Facility at Mamallapuram on 22nd October 2015. Mr. Thomas explained at length to the unit members, on the importance, efficacies and efficacious results of producing bio compost, vermicompost, food waste, methane gas production, electricity generation and aerobic composting production etc. In much as critical understanding of these subjects is essential in their routine functioning and delivery, the trip was greatly useful, the members averred. Followed by this visit the team visited a farm house hold by Mr. Ramakrishnan where they could understand the nuances of organic farming initiatives namely judicious use of cultivable soil need to plant only useful items – fruits, vegetable, leaves.
