Dr Balaji Narasimhan and two students from IIT Madras visited the campus and fixed a rain gauge in the campus to measure the quantum of rainfall as a part of their project to construct a device which can be used to alert the people living close to rivers about the flow of rainfall and the flooding levels. IIT Madras, IIT Bombay and University of Madras are jointly working on this project and will complete this project by February 2018. They will maintain the rain gauge for three years and plan to give it to Chennai Corporation or Public Works Department, Govt of Tamilnadu.
