In his address Dr. V G. Santhosham shared his inspiring life story with the children, how he and his brothers rose from very humble beginnings by sheer hard work. He spoke about his mother and the sufferings underwent by her and sacrifices made by her to bring up her 3 children well. He advised the children to make the best use of the opportunities provided by Sevalaya which acts as a mother to the orphaned children, work hard, study well and assured that they will definitely achieve great success in life. Service to others makes one immortal and he emphasized the importance of universal love, religious harmony and service to all which the children should imbibe. He blessed the children and assured support to all the ventures of Sevalaya.

Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School run by the Trust is a Govt recognized, unaided Tamil Medium School. Most of the students are first generation learners from families of brick kiln workers , landless agricultural labourers and daily wage labourers. Sevalaya is also the shelter home for children in conflict with law referred by the Social Defense Department and these children also are provided education in the school. The school does not charge any fees whatsoever from the students. Every year all the students are provided with 2 sets of uniforms, school bags, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons etc, absolutely free of cost. The school also provides free transport for the children of the Primary School.

Sevalaya firmly believes that education is the only weapon to break away the shackles of poverty and come up in life and the children from the rural underprivileged section, if provided with good opportunities, can excel in academics and extracurricular activities on par with the city children. The school has excellent lab and library facilities and offers training in sports. By securing 100% pass results in the Board exams and excelling in sports, the students of the school have proved themselves.

The achievements of Sevalaya have been possible only because of the continuous and unflinching support of the donors and the trust reposed by them in Sevalaya. Again, it is their generous support which has made it possible for the 2000 underprivileged kids to start their new academic year with new Uniforms, bags and other educational aids right from day one.

Every month Sevalaya gifts books to the staff who celebrate their birthdays during the month. Staff who celebrated their birthdays in May and June received their gifts at the hands of the Chief Guest Dr. V G Santhosham.  Khadi uniforms to the staff were also distributed by the Chief Guest.
