Sevalaya partners with British Council and Shikshalaya to teach English and career growth opportunities
Shikshalaya – a skilling initiative of A A Edutech Private Ltd supported by Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., seeks to empower the youth, especially women and the under-privileged sections of society, with better job opportunities and entrepreneurial abilities. The initiative is aimed at empowering thousands of youth and students across India in places like Nemam and Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), Nellore and Ongole (Andhra Pradesh), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Hoshangabad (Madhya Pradesh), and Lotte Parasuram (Maharashtra) with the required skill-sets, for employability.
Sevalaya is a registered charitable Trust, with activities in villages around Thiruvallur. We currently serve 40 villages in and around Kasuva village which once had 100% child labour. Through a quarter century of operations covering education, shelter for destitute and rural uplift, these villages have reached 100% school enrollment. We currently have 2020 students in our rolls and more than half of them are girls. All our services are rendered absolutely free.
Shikshalaya seeks to help its students to improve their English through online courses such as English strokes and acquire career development skills. 560 students studying from Std. VIII to Std. XII and 100 community college students are currently enrolled in the program.
English strokes offered by A A Edutech Pvt. Ltd., has been developed in partnership with the British Council language teaching. The skilling initiative also teaches students basic computer skills, personality development, job and life-skills. The students accessing the online courses set their own learning pace. Each student is assessed at the end of the month, which helps AA Edutech monitor and evaluate the success of the programme.
Inaugurating the occasion, Mr P M Ravichandran, Zonal Head, Public Affairs and Communication, Hindustan Coco-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., said “We are glad to see the all-round development in the children, and wish to bring a change in the lives of the rural poor, though Shikshalaya.”
Mr Alan Gemmel, Director for India, British Council interacted with the students and distributed English strokes certificates to them.
Kris Srikkanth, Director, AA Edutech Private Limited, is spearheading Shikshalaya for the students of Sevalaya, to further their English and career Skills. He urged the children to dream big dreams, and face the world with confidence by communicating well in English. He mentioned his long association with Mr. V. Muralidharan and Sevalaya, and was excited about the employment opportunities the courses would present for the rural underprivileged youth.
Mr V Muralidharan started off the proceedings by welcoming the guests and Mr Amarchand Jain proposed the vote of thanks.
