A Classical Dance Programme in Aid of Sevalaya

Famous Classical Dancer Kalaimamani Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala, Founder, Kala Pradharshini, Centre for performing Arts & Activities, & her disciples presented a Dance Programme of Mahakavi’s songs on 29th Sep at Naradha Gana Sabha, Sath Guru Gnananada Hall, TTK Road, Chennai.

The programme is organized in rememberance of Bharathi’s envision in the present scenario. The dance programme begun with life history of Bharathi with various dance performance and also skits. There was a thematic representation about Bharathi’s poems.

Firstly, it begun with Bharathi’s song on nature. The dance performance was very heart touching with his famous poem “odi vilayau papa” which is very essential for present generation children. They are glued to the technological devices where it was an unremembered joy of outdoor games. The dance performance also held on Women’s empowerment song “pennukul gnayathai veithai”, importance of girl’s education etc. They also performed various folk dances like kavadi sindhu, uzhi koothu etc. This was a stellar performance that mainly concentrated on love for life, courage & faith in God.

Pujya Shree Swami Omkaranandha participated as our Chief to this divine programme and blessed the Organisation, V.Muralidharan, dancers etc in supporting the programme. He also spoke about Bharathi’s preaching’s which is sincerely followed by Mr. V.Muralidharan in serving the poor and feeding them. He also quoted Bharathi’s poem “necessity of food” which Sevalaya continues to do for more than 27 years. He also spoke about Dharma and said that Bharathi’s song is chanted as prayer in their ashramam. He said that all the nine emotions are explained in Bharathi’s poem that is performed as a dance by Kalapradarshini team.

Sri Rajkumar Bharathi, Great Grandson of Mahakavi Bharathiyar was the Guest of Honor. While delivering his speech he said the poems of Bharathi which spoke about women empowerment and importance of education. He also thanked Sevalaya for celebrating such a remembered day. He also requested people to visit Sevalaya which is serving the poor & needy free of cost. He also quoted some of the poems of Bharathi which is very essential for present day scenario.

Earlier Mr. V. Muralidharan, Founder & Managing Trustee, Sevalaya, welcomed the gathering. He explained the need for fund raising for effectively carrying its services to the rural poor. He also highlighted the important role played by Sevalaya in educating the underprivileged children and making them all complete schooling successfully. He further mentioned that Sevalaya’s contribution of services in other areas, viz. rural development, homes for orphan children and destitute elders. He also said that this programme was organized to celebrate Bharathiar’s day where he is one of the inspirations of Sevalaya & also a fund raising programme.

The programme came to an end by vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Prof. S.V. Mani, Advisory Committee, Sevalaya. He thanked the gathering and also the Kalapradharshini team. He requested all the participants to visit Sevalaya campus to observe the functioning.
