Sevalaya – PwC bring new homes and cheer to 20 families

9 months after their belongings and homes were wrecked by the floods 20 families moved into the newly constructed concrete homes on 16th September 2016. This project was sponsored by PwC India Foundation and executive by Sevalaya. The scene was one of joy and celebrations as new owners were beaming with smile and the entire village sported a festive look.

The handover ceremony of these free of cost permanent houses was attended by PwC India Chairman Deepak Kapoor, PwC India Foundation Vice Chairman Jaivir Singh, Sevalaya Founder and Managing Trustee V Muralidharan, and the people and children of Puliyur Village. These houses will now become homes for more than 100 people from the village.

Post the handover ceremony, hygiene kits were also handed over to each family. Each hygiene kit comes equipped with a solar lantern – so that not only can the children of these households study in the night but families too will never have to sit through darkness.

Deepak Kapoor, Chairman, PwC India, said, “This was an old village and we deem it a pleasure to have had this opportunity to get a chance to rebuild the homes. We wish the people all the best in their new homes. We look forward to working with Sevalaya in more projects in future.”
