This prestigious award was presented by the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Selvi J Jayalalithaa during the Independence day function at Fort St. George, on August 15, 2016. It was an acknowledgement of more than two decades of assiduous service to the cause of the underprivileged sections of the society. At Sevalaya’s heart is providing ‘free’ education to more than 2000 underprivileged children. More than half of them are girls from the surrounding villages. Sevalaya has taken up the cause of sponsoring the collegiate education of 50 girl children who have completed their Std. XII Board exams.
Sevalaya is a registered charitable Trust established in 1988, with activities in villages around Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram district. Currently the centres are operating from Kasuva village and Aayalur village near Thiruninravur in Tiruvallur District, North West of Chennai in Tamilnadu, India and in vadanallur village near Uttiramerur and Thirumalai Vaiyavur village in Kancheepuram district, South of Chennai in Tamilnadu.
